South Algarve, Portugal
The land is part of the practice.
Rose Mountain is a private estate in the south of Portugal, in the southern Algarve, thirty minutes from Faro. Forty-eight hectares of land: olive groves, a garden, a swimming pool, a temple space purpose-built for somatic work, and a quality of light that does something to the nervous system before the sessions begin.
We chose this place because it is isolated without being remote. The sea is close. The silence is consistent. There is room to walk and room to be still. The land holds a certain steadiness that we have not found in any other venue.
The land
The garden runs around a large swimming pool. There are olive trees, a hammock, several seating areas, and a Buddha in the garden that predates the retreat by many years. Between sessions, participants are free to walk, rest, swim, or sit. Nothing is scheduled that isn't a session.
Dinner is shared each evening, then we transform the space for the evening programme. The mornings begin with a morning practice before breakfast. Between sessions the garden and pool are yours. The body finds its own pace here by day two.
The temple space
Built for this kind of work.
A purpose-built space on the estate, separate from the main house. High ceilings, natural light, and a floor set up with individual stations for each couple. The space holds up to twelve people comfortably, which is why we keep the retreat to six couples maximum.
The space was designed with The Gaia Method practice in mind. There is an altar at the centre. The walls absorb sound. The floor is warm.
This is our practice space during the five days. The space is open between sessions if a couple wants to return. In the evenings we transform the space for rituals.
Villa community space
Meals together, evenings by the fire, morning coffee on the long terrace. The shared spaces are part of what makes the five days work.
Breakfast is laid out from 8:00 and dinner is together at 19:00. Between those times, the kitchen is yours. The living room is the gathering place between sessions - books, sofas, a fire in the evenings when the temperature drops. It is the kind of space where conversations happen without being planned.
The food
Meals at Rose Mountain are prepared fresh each day using local and seasonal produce. You can enjoy your breakfast in the beautiful outside garden each morning. Lunch together between the morning and afternoon practice. Dinner around the shared table each evening.
Eating together is not a break from the retreat. It is part of how the group finds its rhythm.
